Youth Training for Strength, Confidence, and Performance

Thoughtful coaching for youth who want to get stronger, move better, build confidence, or improve performance in the sports they love.

Youth Athletic Development at Valdes Performance in Winter Springs, Florida
The short answer

Youth Athletic Development at Valdes Performance is personalized strength, movement, and performance training for youth at a wide range of starting points. We begin with a needs analysis to understand their goals, experience, how they move, and, when relevant, the demands of their sport. From there, we build training that makes sense for them. Some come to us for sports performance. Others simply want to get stronger, learn how to train, and feel more confident in the gym.

We Start With What They Need

The first few weeks are about learning. We look at how your child moves, how they respond to coaching, what already comes naturally, and where they may need more time or support. Depending on their goals, that could include strength, coordination, balance, speed, power, body control, or simply becoming more comfortable with training.

Progress can show up in a lot of ways. Sometimes it is more weight or more speed. Other times it is a cleaner landing, better control, stronger technique, or the confidence to try something that felt difficult a few weeks earlier. We challenge them appropriately and build from there.

Training With a Purpose

There is no one youth program we hand to everyone. Training starts with a needs analysis and is built around what your child wants and needs to improve.

For an athlete, that may include strength, speed, power, coordination, change of direction, or work that supports the demands of their sport. For someone who is not training for a sport, the focus may be getting stronger, learning how to use the gym, improving coordination, or simply building a positive relationship with exercise. The details can look different, but the goal is the same: training that is purposeful, progressive, and appropriate for where they are now.

Not Just for Athletes

You do not have to play a sport to benefit from Youth Athletic Development. Plenty of youth come to us because they want to feel stronger, more capable, more coordinated, or more comfortable in a training environment.

There is no tryout and no sports background required. We start with what they can do, give them the right amount of challenge, and help them build from there. For some, progress is running faster or getting stronger. For others, it is learning a new skill, feeling more confident in their body, or discovering that training can actually be something they look forward to.

Those wins matter just as much.

How Youth Training Starts

Everything starts with a free intro session. We talk through your child's goals, experience, schedule, any sports they play, and what you are hoping training helps them build. From there, we complete a needs analysis to get a better picture of how they move and what qualities are most important to work on.

That gives us the starting point. Training may be one-on-one or in a group setting depending on their goals, needs, schedule, and the best fit for them.

If they play a sport, we also account for practices, games, tournaments, and where they are in the season. If they do not, we build around what they want to improve and what keeps them engaged.

Experienced Coaching Matters

Our coaching staff holds credentials spanning CSCS, RSCC, NASM, and ACSM. Founder and head coach Cristina Valdes holds a B.S. in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and has been coaching for more than ten years. As a former collegiate pole vaulter, she also understands firsthand how much good coaching can shape confidence, skill, and long-term development.

Youth training is coached in person with close attention to technique, effort, progression, and how your child is responding that day. We are not interested in rushing them toward heavier weights or harder drills just for the sake of doing more. The goal is to help them get stronger, build useful skills, and leave training feeling capable and successful.

Questions, answered

Readiness looks different for everyone, which is why we start by getting to know your child rather than using age alone to decide. During the intro and needs analysis, we'll look at how they move, how they respond to coaching, and what they are ready for now. From there, we can recommend a starting point that feels appropriate and productive.

Yes, when it is coached well and progressed appropriately. We focus on teaching technique, control, and confidence before adding more challenge. Training is adjusted to your child's age, experience, and ability, with the goal of helping them get stronger without rushing the process.

They are absolutely welcome here. Youth Athletic Development is not only for athletes. Training can help build strength, coordination, confidence, and comfort in the gym whether or not a sport is part of the picture. Wanting to feel stronger and more capable is reason enough to start.

When a sport is part of their goals, yes. We consider the demands of that sport along with their position, schedule, season, and what they need most. But we do not force every session to look like the sport itself. The goal is to build qualities that support performance while still developing well-rounded strength and movement.

We keep nutrition conversations simple, positive, and age-appropriate. That may include basics like fueling for training, hydration, and eating enough to support activity and growth. We do not prescribe diets or turn food into a set of rules, and anything beyond general guidance is best handled with their pediatrician or another qualified healthcare professional.

It depends on what your child needs. Youth training may be one-on-one or group-based, and the best fit can vary based on goals, experience, schedule, and availability. After the intro and needs analysis, we'll walk you through the options and recommend a place to start.
